How should being a follower of Jesus transform our life? To kick off this month's conversations about regeneration and transformation, I am talking with Katrina McCain, author of Beyond Being Good: Seeking Christ's Perfection for Our Imperfect Hearts. We discuss how to lean on Jesus' perfection, and not our own. Throughout our conversation, there are practical tips on how being a follower of Jesus naturally overflows and transforms our daily life.
Rachel will be discussing the “gory and glory” of the crucifixion of Jesus. Prayerfully, may we fix our eyes upon Jesus and the measures He went to secure our salvation and consummate God’s Kingdom. Let’s bring ourselves to really reflect on Psalm 22:12-18 in light of Jesus’ suffering and crucifixion. What David wrote fits well with the exhaustion, stretching, suffocation, and circulatory stoppage that occur during crucifixion.
Let’s kneel down and sit back today, at the foot of the cross, seeing and feeling Jesus’ sacrifice for us and soaking in our blood-stained, glorious redemption through the love of our God, who sacrificed even His only Son to restore us to Him; to redeem this fallen world, to offer forgiveness of sins, and to create a way for us to finally be with Him yet again- for all of eternity. In this episode, Rachel will deliver a message entitled “Crucified Christ,” based on Psalm 22.
Gretchen Ronnevik has an audible passion for Gospel Mentoring. In this episode, she will exude her delight as she discusses why this is vital for Churches and individuals. She shares about what “gospel mentoring” is, how to find a mentor, and how to be a mentor. I know you all will walk away from this conversation with a deep yearning for mentorship and mentoring.
Total dependence on God is the overlying topic of this chat with Valerie Woerner. Valerie walks us through how prayer and action can drastically change our life as we daily submit to God and grow in total dependence on Him. Valerie is the founder of Val Marie Paper, is a wife, mom, and Christian author. Her passion for prayer coupled with action will shine through our conversation today.
It has been a joy to talk with Caroline Saunders about discipleship! In this episode, we will discuss Jesus’ perfect example of discipleship and how He based it on three vital aspects. Of note, Caroline exhorts, “Discipleship is up-close ministry. In those up-close places, that is where change really happens.” If you need a practical kick to go out and make disciples, stay tuned to the gems that Caroline gives us in this chat.
Welcome to the second part of our conversation about the value of discipleship with Dr. Robert Carpenter. In case you missed the first episode, which I encourage you to go and listen to, Dr. Carpenter is talking with us all the way from East Africa- as he is currently on active duty as the Director of Religious Affairs for the Combined Joint Task Force- Horn of Africa located in Djibouti, which is just north of the Somalia border in East Africa. I had the privilege this summer to be taught by him through Regent University in my Seminary studies. Dr. Carpenter shares his powerful testimony with us in the first episode, and we continue to reflect on how great God is to equip those that He calls. We will also discuss more about how discipleship was vital in Dr. Carpenter’s obedience to follow God’s call on his life. If you haven’t noticed already, Dr. Carpenter has the gift of exhortation and encouragement. I’m praying that you will feel encouraged by our conversation today!
Today will be the first of a two-part conversation about Discipleship with Dr. Robert Carpenter. I became connected to Dr. Carpenter through my studies at Regent University as he was one of my Seminary Professors in a Biblical Discipleship course over the summer. Dr. Carpenter, therefore, teaches about our call as Christians to “go out and make disciples.” He will exhort and encourage us with biblical truth! Dr. Carpenter shares his powerful testimony with us and about key people in his life who disciple him to grow into the man of God that he is today. Some questions we will cover are: What is discipleship? Why should discipleship be important to us as Christians? And What are some practical ways that we can cultivate a life of being and making disciples?
This episode I am talking to Mindy Larsen about all things anxiety. This topic is so close to my heart, in all the wrong ways. As anxiety is something that Mindy and I both are familiar with, we discuss how we, personally, remember to combat it with God’s Word. We also answer questions like: What would you say to encourage those of us who have struggled with this? What advice/insight can you give someone who doesn’t personally struggle with anxiety, but who has loved ones who do? How can they help their loved one? Mindy and I are praying that this conversation truly empowers you to lean into God and trust that what He says about you is true.
Have you ever felt “stuck” in prayer? Have you ever lacked a desire to go and pray? Well, friend, you are in good company. Today, Lisa and I chat about the importance of prayer and how to overcome these feelings through God’s Word and through coming to have conversations with Him, God, the creator of the Universe- who longs to hear from us. I loved Lisa’s practical tips on prayer. I found it so refreshing that she said that her ministry and her passion for prayer has grown out of a weakness- isn’t that just like God? Lisa is representing her Ministry, Backgate Prayers. You’ll hear how this ministry came about and you’ll grow to love Lisa, Rae-Lynn and Kristen’s story just as much as I do.
Amanda is a wife, mom, writer, podcast host, Pastor, and has the prettiest and most inspirational Instagram feed you’ll ever run across. Amanda writes ever so eloquently about how to see the Holy in the Ordinary and how to notice God in everyday life. You all, as we speak on this topic, I’m praying that you will see God in everyday, ordinary moments and that He may be glorified all the more in your life.
Today on Unaltered Grace Podcast, I am speaking with Chelsea Stanley, who is a writer, wife, mom, and Redeemed Daughter of God. We will chat about how to honor your parents in a Christ-like way. Often, we think of the command to “Honor Your Parents” to apply solely to young children. But today we are specifically talking to adults about honoring your parents. Therefore, we will learn that this command is applicable life-long, and obeying this command can exude Christ-likeness. This conversation left me with feelings of forgiveness, repentance, and grace; along with equipping me with plenty of application to put into practice. I’m praying the same over you as you listen!
On today's episode, Halie and I talk about the struggles of practicing Sabbath and how counter-cultural it is. Sabbath is against what the world values, but we will discuss how God values- and how He has graciously created- rest. We will learn how we can walk in this rest and in light of the gospel as we fix our minds on who Jesus is and learn how He came to give us rest.
In this episode, I get the privilege to speak with Bruce Fredrickson, who was my childhood Pastor. Bruce is a retired US Army Chaplain, has served also in the Marine Corp, was an Assemblies of God Pastor, and is currently working as a Chaplain in a Cancer Unit. We tackle the age-old, top google-searched question of “Why does God”… allow pain and suffering? This question gets personal as Bruce has been diagnosed with cancer within the last year and a half. We will hear him speak about how God is faithful amidst life’s circumstances. We will be reoriented to a Biblical worldview that provides the groundwork for how we should approach this question as Christians. This conversation came at the most opportune time for me to listen and to take part in; and I’m praying the same over you, as well!
In this episode, we will glean practical tips about how to memorize verses of the Bible. We will also discuss the vast importance of storing up God’s Word in our hearts. Savannah reflects, “The truths in Scripture help remind me that my reality isn’t defined by my feelings. Our reality is told to us in the pages of God’s Word. That has been really important for me to cling to. It is still so easy for me to forget these truths. Even after being a Christian for years and years, it’s so easy to forget. And that’s not an accident, the Enemy wants us to forget these things.” Let’s walk away from this episode with our notecards in hand and our hearts and minds armed and ready to memorize God’s great Word!
We acknowledge that walking with Jesus can feel like more of a pursuit than an 'easy' walk. On today's episode, I will chat with Amy Hornbuckle about how we, as Christians, are called to walk out our faith in our everyday lives. We will share about some personal struggles in doing this, and about how community with other believers can help teach us how to walk like Jesus did. We will hear Amy talk about the importance of spiritual disciplines (prayer, Bible reading, etc.) and how to practically begin and sustain those in our lives. It was such a joy to speak with Amy about this and I came away from this conversation feeling refreshed to "lace up my shoes" so to speak- and wholeheartedly follow Jesus!
On this episode, I get the privilege to talk with Aubrey Golbek, a Registered Dietician. We will learn about God’s Unaltered Grace that He can give us through food and through eating habits. Aubrey speaks about intuitive eating, and really, just grace-filled eating. I learned so much from this episode, and I kind of walked away sort of paradoxically being okay with eating chocolate chips and Cheetos, but really also having a strong desire to glorify God in my eating habits and to take care of my body well for His glory. This conversation is so much more than dieting or more than just intuitive eating. Aubrey speaks the truth over us today! I pray this conversation blesses you as it did me!
In this episode, I chat with Bethany Barendregt: wife, momma, and founder of Women Encouraged. She shares so many practical tips on how to be more hospitable, on how hospitality has looked within the different seasons of her life, and she really highlights the importance of community. We both share about the many times we have desired greater community within the body of Christ and the ways that we have experienced this community. Bethany also talks about the topic of loneliness and she discusses how to cling to Christ in seasons of loneliness. You guys, she shares so much godly wisdom about a myriad of topics. I am thrilled to pass on the wealth of knowledge!
In this episode, we will be Biblically inspired, equipped, and implored to remain freshly planted in Jesus and in God's Word. We will hear from Jasmine Allred in how she practically remains freshly planted in Jesus and what being "freshly planted" means.
In this intro episode, you will hear from your podcast host, Rachel Lawrence. Listen to bits of her testimony, what she's praying God will accomplish through this platform, and what you can expect to hear on Unaltered Grace Podcast.
