Today on Unaltered Grace Podcast, I am speaking with Chelsea Stanley, who is a writer, wife, mom, and Redeemed Daughter of God. We will chat about how to honor your parents in a Christ-like way. Often, we think of the command to “Honor Your Parents” to apply solely to young children. But today we are specifically talking to adults about honoring your parents. Therefore, we will learn that this command is applicable life-long, and obeying this command can exude Christ-likeness. This conversation left me with feelings of forgiveness, repentance, and grace; along with equipping me with plenty of application to put into practice. I’m praying the same over you as you listen!
Chelsea offered these tangible tips to honor our parents:
Choosing not to speak ill of our parents
Having a posture of forgiveness towards our parents
Make them a priority when you pray for them, even when they have caused you pain
Honor them when we don’t blame them for our sins
Give our parents weight in our lives
Honor our parents with our schedules; call, email, get together with them, carve out time in the midst of our business
Give weight to their counsel where that is appropriate
Seek out their advice
Support/provide for them when they get older
Serving your parents
